The Old New York County Courthouse. The so called "Tweed Courthouse," at 52 Chambers Street, was completed in 1881. It took 20 years and an estimated $11 - 12 million dollars to get built - some two thirds of that cost attributable to money embezzled from the project by Democratic Party leader, William Marcy Tweed, and his associates. Just beyond the Tweed Courthouse is the old New York City Court of General Sessions at 32 Chambers Street. [ Continued ]
