The Old New York County Courthouse. "The County Court-House, adjacent to the City Hall, is in Corinthian architecture ... . The original design was noble, but suffered disfigurement by large additions ordered by the city government. It was begun in 1861, but the dome is not yet finished. The Court-House is an inadequate showing for the $10,000,000 it cost the city. Its construction was a basis for a considerable part of the speculations of Tweed and his associates. The new City Hall will enclose this structure on three sides, and probably at no distant date it will be taken down."
