The Court of Appeals is New York State's highest court. From 1885 to 1917, the Court occupied a courtroom on the southeast corner of the third floor of the State Capitol in Albany. The courtroom, shown here, had elaborate oak paneling lined with portraits of former judges, a fireplace of Mexican onyx, and an ornate rail at the bar. Lord Coleridge described it as the finest of any court in the world.Today's courtroom in the old State Hall duplicates the old one. [ Continued ]
