The Court of Appeals. In 1917, the Court of Appeals moved from the State Capitol to its own Courthouse in a building which had been constructed in 1834 and given the name State Hall. It had formerly housed the offices of the Secretary of State. A new courtroom was built that duplicated the old courtroom at the Capitol. Although it is New York's highest Court, its jurisdiction is, with one exception, limited to issues of law. [ Continued ]
