CLICK ON THIS IMAGE TO ADVANCE TO THE NEXT PICTURE.    Left:  Completed in 1936 at a cost of $50,000,000, the Southern District of New York Federal Court Building at Foley Square is 37 stories and 529 ft. high. It has been replaced by a new Courthouse at 500 Pearl Street.
   Below:  The Courthouse site used to be the south end of a pond called the "Collect," derived from "kolk," the Dutch word for pond. The bottom image shows the future Foley Square some time in the late 19th Century.
